How Very Retro!

Well, I’ve been bitten by the retro bug! I’ve been scouring Craig’s List and Kijiji looking for 60’s sewing sewing machines. I think I’ve decided on this beauty:

Singer Style-O-Matic 328J

That’s right, it’s the Singer Style-O-Matic 328J in perfect working condition with a wooden desk, again, in great condition. It also comes with a buttonholer, cams for fancy stitches and extra feet.

The sewing machine folds into the table when not in use and becomes a lovely side table. It’ll be a great back-up should the Sapphire need to go into the shop and it’s supposed to be able to sew through multiple layers of denim, something the Sapphire doesn’t seem to be able to do smoothly (without pulling and tugging at the fabric).

I have been sewing, finished the blue linen skirt (New Look 6494) in time for the BBQ and wore it again on Monday to work, I’ve also been working on a shirt for M, I just need to hem and add buttons/holes.

Saturday I purchased a gorgeous pink and green cotton/silk which I tossed into the washing machine AND dryer and it came out beautifully. I also got a cotton plaid in white and beige, not sure if I’m going to attempt to make the infamous McCall’s 5525 trench coat and cutting it on the bias so the plaid is on an angle. I visited Burberry’s site yesterday and noticed that they don’t even attempt to match their plaids! How lame is that?? $1,395 for this jacket and you can’t match the plaid???

  1. Hi and thanks for visiting my site! The skirt you referred to is made in what I call a “Big Bird” fabric 🙂 It’s some form of synthetic, medium weight, and has the look of bird feathers (laying flat with the nap). I bought it about 2 years ago at F&S Fabrics in Los Angeles.
