No Sewing For Me!

BREAKING NEWS: Pam at Off the Cuff ~ Sewing Style, has pointed us to Gigi’s Tutorial on Convertible Collars for the  Colette Patterns Negroni men’s shirt. A huge thank you to Pam!!

Yet More BREAKING NEWS: Gigi Sews has graciously agreed to do a tutorial on matching the fabric pattern across the button opening on our shirts, YAY!!! I can’t wait, thank you!

Thursday is the last work night of the week so no sewing for me but alas, today is Friday and I can’t wait to get home from work!! What shall I do? Should I finish up the Colette Patterns Negroni men’s shirt muslin which will not go beyond that point or should I start cutting Kwik Sew 2777 men’s shirt from my fashion fabric and embroider the inside yoke in preparation?!? I need to get more top stitching thread for TDF’s corduroy coat so that project is at a stand still until I can get to Fabricland, I also need stabilizer for KS2777.

This evening I picked up three issues of Burda Style magazine from the local Polish/German deli. I have to say I wasn’t impressed with the December issue, a lot of 80’s ugly going on there!

Nothing says ugly better than a black pvc jump suit!

Look at me, I have an enormous ass and skinny ankles!

What was Burda thinking???

Can we stop rehashing the 80’s PLEASE???

And now that your eyes are burning with hideousness, let me sooth them with some sweet, soothing organza…

Sooo pretty! And look at this sexy little silk number… a little low in the cleavage area but…

It’s not until the February issue that I finally found something I can fit into and looks great, buried way in the back of the magazine where the fat chick stuff is. According to Burda sizing, I’m a size 48 top and 50 bottom. In Canada, I’m a size 14 RTW and if I can just brag for a second here, I can take my size 14 pants off without unzipping them! TMI?

Am I wrong to judge Burda so harshly? I don’t think so and I know I’m not the only one. There seems to be a lot of ugly in every issue and I have to ask myself why I bother buying the magazine when I need to loose at least 40lbs to fit into the majority of the patterns. And does anyone really make that stuff from the 80’s anymore? I was in my teens during that decade, am I too scarred by it to see the retro value?

My apologies for the rant, I promise to have more actual sewing action photos this weekend!

  1. Hi ! You asked me a question about the Negroni Shirt yokes/facing/collar sequence…I answered in a comment under yours w/ a link to a great tutorial showing exactly how to professionally construct a shirt with a “convertible collar” (which is what the Negroni Shirt collar is… 🙂 It details a method for completely enclosing collar, neckline and yoke seams by machine. HTH, Pam
