Good Bye Janome MC350E, Hello Brother PE-780D!

After I informed my husband of the whole escapade, he insisted on driving to Sewing Machine Factory Outlet to retrieve my deposit. He would not let me go into the store, I was too emotional, he wanted to handle the situation in a calm, level-headed manner.

Terrie was there, she did not want to give him my deposit back and promised that the machine would be there the following day. He told her that she had kept our money long enough and that we no longer wanted to do business with her. According to dh, her hands were shaking and so they should!! She could have ordered my machine at any time but she didn’t, she continued to lie to me at every turn. She also continued to blame Janome Canada! How can she blame the company for failing to order a machine for me???

Back in the car I phoned a Bernina dealer about the Bernette 340 Deco. They wanted a 50% deposit on the machine and needless to say dh refused. Another lost sale.

I phoned a Brother dealer on Queen Street West and asked him for his best price on the Brother 780, $999.99 and in stock. We’re going to pick up after work today.

If you’re interested in purchasing a Brother sewing machine in Toronto, please visit World Sewing Centre or call (416) 703-1026 and ask for Lawrence. They’re located at 511 Queen St West, Toronto, ON M5V 2B4 and a registered Brother dealer.

  1. Hi, I’ve just purchased my first embroidery machine – a Brother PE780D – on 4/20/12. Like you, I was torn between the Janome MC350E and the Brother. My dealer sells both, but ultimately I chose the Brother. It was a tough choice, and I am still on the fence ….. Anyway, for anyone interested in the Brother PE780D, I paid $800 but that included BES Embroidery Lettering Software which retails for $399. My dealer also threw in a package of pre-wound bobbins and six spools of Pacesetter thread. Having priced the Brother PE780D from other retailers, I knew I got a good deal. My dealer is B-Right-On Sewing & Vacuum in Brighton, CO. I also bought a Janome DC4030 from them on 3/1/12, and they met the internet price. They had to order my machine, and I’m excited to receive it and start embroidering. Diane in Colorado

  2. Hi Tabatha,
Now that you have had your Brother machine for a while, how do you like it? I have 2 Kenmore Elite machines (made by Janome) and have a lot of problems with the tension when embroidering so am thinking about another machine. Do you purchase designs off the net and download them? Does that work easily? Any problems you want to mention? I use my machine a lot (maybe 5 hours a day) so need something that can stand up to that kind of use. Any advice would be welcome!

    • Hi Marjorie, I ended up getting the Janome 350E and I love it. I haven’t had any problems with tension but I think if you’re embroidering 5 hours a day, a professional machine is what you need! That’s a bit much for any domestic machine I think. I’d love to know what you choose!
