Is Craftsy a Well Kept Secret?

I don’t hear much from bloggers about Craftsy.com.

At the beginning of the month I received an email from Fabric.com advertising an online course from Wendy Butler Burns, Machine Quilting: Free Motion and More for just $30.00. I tried free motion quilting (fmq) a tiny bit on my own but didn’t like the results however, I really like how it looks and desperately want to master it. I enjoyed this course even though my sewing machine wouldn’t cooperate (kept breaking thread – needs to go into the shop). When you sign up for an online course with Craftsy, you have access to the videos “forever” as well as the question/answer forums and course notes. After completing the couse, I signed up for Jenny Doan’s Quilting Quickly.  I haven’t completed watching all Jenny’s videos but quickly realized you could watch a lower quality video on YouTube. I was able to get the course for only $25.00 so I didn’t feel too bad and the quality is much better.

I think Craftsy is a great resource for beginners and more recently, a great place for fantastic deals on fabric! This week I scored an Annette Tatum Design Roll for CAD$16.99 and today, Bella Solids Jelly Roll (Warm) for CAD$29.99, which is regularly US$37.00 and shipping is included in both my prices!

I received my sister’s fabric this week, Fabricworm’s Birdie in a Cage fat quarter bundle and will start cutting it this weekend. I’ll be mixing it with Paula Prass’ Wing Study in Pastille from her Botanika line and a solid, perhaps a buttery yellow? I don’t know what pattern I’ll use, I was thinking of the dark/light half square triangles but there doesn’t seem to be much contrast in the palette.

I almost forgot, I purchased five  1/2 yards of Magic Beans by American Jane, all colours except blue. I missed the whole pez craze so I’m excited about this fabric!!

I’m off to get my hair cut tomorrow, it’s been awhile and it’s much longer than in my photo. Perhaps I’ll have a new photo for you tomorrow!
